INTRODUCTION:

At a height of roughly 2,608 meters, Chopta sometimes referred to as the “little Switzerland” of Uttarakhand, is tucked away in the Garhwal Himalayas. Given that it is encircled by bugyals, plush meadows, and flawless snow-capped summits, Chopta is a well-liked vacation destination all year round. It is beautiful in the summer, soggy during the monsoon, and covered in snow in the winter. More than 240 different species of birds, including migratory and endemic ones like the Himalayan monal, Himalayan swiftlet, Himalayan griffon, and others, may be found in Chopta. Nearby locations like Dugalbitta, Mandal Village, Makkumath, and the Tungnath Trek trail are the best places to watch our feathered friends.

When to travel

Chopta Trek is a great place to travel throughout the year, but the best time to go is from November to May.

HOW TO GET THERE

Jolly Grant Airport, located 221 kilometers from Chopta, is the closest airport. The Jolly Grant Airport has frequent flights to Delhi. Excellent motorable roads connect Chopta with Jolly Grant Airport. Taxis are accessible from Jolly Grant Airport to Chopta.

Rishikesh has the closest train station to Chopra. Rishikesh Railway Station can be found 202 kilometers before Chopta on NH58. Rishikesh is connected to the major Indian cities by rail networks. Trains travel frequently in Rishikesh. Motorable highways provide a good connection between Rishikesh and Chopta. In order to reach Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Ukhimath, and Chopta, Rishikesh offers taxi and bus services.

Motorable roadways connect Chopta to the major cities in the state of Uttrakhand. Buses to Rishikesh and Srinagar are accessible from the ISBT Kashmiri Gate. Buses and taxis are readily available to take you to Chopta from well-known Uttarakhand sites like Rishikesh, Pauri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Gaurikund, Srinagar, Gopeshwar, etc.On the route that links Guptkashi and Gopeshwar is Chopta.

Regarding Chandrashila Peak and the Tungnath Temple

According to the priest, Bhagwan Tungnath Temple is thought to be older than a thousand years and is magnificent in terms of design and building. Other smaller rock temples nearby are rumored to be devoted to Goddess Parvati, and this major temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This also takes Chandrashila Peak into account

From Tungnath Temple, it is another 1.5 km to Chandrashila Peak. From Tungnath Temple, the trail narrows and becomes an uphill trek route as one ascends to Chandrashila Peak’s meadows. The final peak of the mountain, where the Tungnath temple is also located, is called Chandrashila Peak. On the summit sits a stunning little temple. At a height of 3,690 meters above sea level, Chandrashila Peak is located in the center of these 360-degree summits. Shivling Peak, the Gangotri ranges, Chaukhamba, Kamet, Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Kedar Dome, and other Himalayan peaks are all visible from there.

Some unique characteristics of Chopta

In the state of Uttarakhand, Lord Tungnath also travels to the five holy Shiva temples. Lord Shree Kedarnath and Madmaheshwar temples are to the left, the Sri Rudranath and Sri Kalpeshwar temples are to the right, and the Sri Tungnath temples are immediately above.

The Himalayan Monal, Himalayan Swiftlet, Himalayan Griffon, Scarlet Finch, Hill Partridge, and other native and migratory species of birds, as well as many other animals, can be found in Chopta, which is also a bird lover’s paradise. National and international conservation and biodiversity organizations have designated Chopta as a significant wild animal bird-watching destination. Surrounding locations including Dugal Bitta, Mandal Village, and the Tungnath Trek Route are where most sightings occur.

Chopta Tungnath and Chandrashila Trekking Highlights

Day 1: Dehradun to Chopta

Day 2: Acclimatization exploration and a day of rest Deoriatal or Chopta

Day 3: From Chopta, travel to Tungnath, Chandrashila Peak, and then return to Chopta Campground.

Day 4: Dehradun to Chopta.
